UL Secures Customers’ Access to Certification Status While Protecting Intellectual Property

UL LLC is a global safety‑science company that conducts tens of thousands of product safety and certification evaluations each year and serves tens of thousands of manufacturers. UL needed to give customers secure access to product-testing and certification status and service information without exposing confidential intellectual property, so it launched a three‑year identity and access management initiative to control who sees what.

Using Oracle Identity and Access Management Suite, Oracle Entitlements Server and Oracle API Gateway, UL implemented attribute‑based access controls and federation so customers can self‑manage identities while UL enforces fine‑grained restrictions (for example, limiting access by network or role). The phased rollout, supported by integration partner Simeio, completed an initial phase and pilots and aims to onboard 125,000 customers; the solution lets customers monitor certification progress, automates deprovisioning, and positions security as an enabler rather than an obstacle.
