Twist Bioscience leverages OCI and AI to advance protein initiatives

Twist Bioscience, a synthetic biology and genomics company, needed a high-performance cloud platform and close engineering support to accelerate protein-structure prediction for drug discovery. The company turned to Oracle and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to help operationalize AI models such as AlphaFold2, ParaFold, and ESMFold, while also meeting global storage and processing needs.

Oracle implemented OCI GPU instances with NVIDIA A10 Tensor Core GPUs and worked closely with Twist Bioscience’s engineering team to optimize and scale the workloads. As a result, Twist moved from evaluating a few 3D models to predicting thousands per day; ParaFold delivered a 40% improvement over AlphaFold2, Oracle’s optimization cut sequence time by another 36%, and ESMFold improved prediction speeds by 82%.
