Tucson Electric Power Accelerates Energy Use Analysis by Cutting Report Generation Times in Half and Speeds Outage Information to Customers

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) delivers power to more than 414,000 customers in the Tucson area and needed a more efficient, reliable platform to manage massive meter-data volumes, speed outage communication, and improve report generation times. The utility faced the challenge of ingesting and analyzing millions of meter records daily while providing real-time outage maps and timely customer updates.

By moving key workloads to Oracle SPARC S7 servers running Oracle Solaris 11 and using Solaris Zones, TEP halved meter-data report generation times, handles about 20 million records per day (reading 414,000 meters many every 15 minutes) without disruption, and simplified virtualized operations with fast, trouble-free migrations. The result is a more resilient, cost-effective platform that accelerates analytics, supports real-time outage information, and frees IT to focus on innovation.
