TLC keeps libraries open during COVID-19 using Oracle Cloud

The Library Corporation (TLC) provides integrated library management software to over 4,500 libraries, from single branches to large metropolitan systems. When COVID-19 forced libraries to close buildings and staff to work remotely, many lost access to TLC’s on-premises ILS, disrupting circulation, cataloging, and patron services.

In early 2020 TLC moved its ILS—already built on Oracle Database—to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), enabling secure, scalable remote access and easier provisioning and updates. Running on OCI allowed staff to serve millions of patrons across thousands of municipalities via web and mobile catalogs (including “hands‑free” holds and library‑to‑go), reduced local network bandwidth load by keeping requests off in‑house systems, and provided advanced security and authentication for remote workflows and vendor integrations.
