A Oracle Case Study
Teraoka System Co., Ltd., a Japan‑based provider of cloud‑based store management and POS systems for food specialty retailers (serving over 1,000 companies and 4,000 stores with 12,000+ POS terminals), needed to improve performance, scalability, availability, and operational visibility. Overnight batch processing, high CPU utilization during peak hours, growing storage needs, and the requirement to avoid service suspension for maintenance threatened user satisfaction and limited business expansion.
Teraoka implemented two Oracle Exadata Database Machines (eighth‑rack) with Oracle Advanced Compression and Oracle Enterprise Manager, supported by Oracle consultants. The new engineered system cut batch processing from overnight to about 30 minutes, reduced CPU utilization from ~90% at peak to under 10%, enabled 24/7 availability, compressed transaction data ~3x to lower network load, improved IT monitoring and issue resolution, and delivered payback within one year while supporting growth to 30,000 POS without additional hardware.
