Case Study: Telstra saves AUD$51M and empowers citizen developers with Oracle APEX

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Telstra Case Study

Telecom giant Telstra empowers citizen developers with Oracle APEX

Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications and media company, faced performance and cost problems from thousands of internal Microsoft Access applications that clogged network bandwidth and required expensive compute instances. Managing hundreds to thousands of disparate tools created high maintenance overhead and limited agility for internal teams.

Telstra consolidated roughly 3,000 Access databases onto a central Oracle APEX platform with an Oracle Database and RAC-backed application server, reducing the footprint to a two‑instance deployment and cutting about AUD$51 million in data center costs. The Telstra APEX Central environment also empowered citizen developers to build and deploy apps quickly (supporting initiatives like 5G rollout and the DBTECH suite) without provisioning VMs, further lowering maintenance and speeding delivery.
