Case Study: OceanX achieves 300% performance boost and 30% cost reduction with Oracle Exadata Cloud Service (Oracle)

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the OceanX Case Study

Switching to Oracle from AWS enhances OceanX’s Data Platform performance, enabling clients to gain real-time insight into the customer journey

OceanX, a spin‑off from direct‑marketing firm Guthy‑Renker, provides a subscription commerce platform that combines e‑commerce, fulfillment, customer care, and analytics to help brands build recurring revenue and lifelong customer relationships. After moving to AWS in 2016, OceanX experienced slow data processing and reporting caused by EC2 throughput limits and shared storage, lacked support for key Oracle database features (RAC, Data Guard, multi‑tenancy), and faced scaling and maintenance challenges as client demand grew.

OceanX ran a proof of concept on Oracle Exadata Cloud Service and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with a dedicated FastConnect link, then migrated databases to Exadata. The move delivered a 300% performance improvement, roughly 30% cost savings, consolidated 13 databases into five container databases for simpler management, removed storage limits with more than 60 TB available, and added high availability and disaster recovery via RAC and Data Guard—dramatically speeding reporting and lowering operational overhead.
