A Oracle Case Study
SVB-BGT (established 2016) consolidated the Netherlands’ large-scale topographical data from seven source holders into one national Base Register for use at scales of 1:500–1:5000. The organization needed to harmonize heterogeneous formats and definitions into a single, topologically correct dataset with millimeter accuracy (about 100 million objects and ~1 billion records), deliver continuous updates and a history of changes to 426 subscribing bodies, and apply thousands of daily mapping mutations without downtime.
SVB-BGT implemented a hybrid Oracle solution—Oracle Database 12c with Spatial and Graph, Spatial Vector Acceleration, Partitioning, Oracle Public/Private Cloud and Application Express—to convert, visualize, verify, and correct GIS data in real time. The result is a single, harmonized national dataset that eliminates gaps/overlaps, supports 2,000 geo-specialists, meets legal requirements, processes daily fixes with high performance and low latency, and reduced provisioning and security costs while providing the most detailed, real-time large-scale map resource in Dutch history.
