A Oracle Case Study
Sun Moon University, a leading Korean institution serving about 10,000 on-campus and 1,000 international students, faced recurring delays and downtime during peak course-registration periods as data volumes grew. The legacy Oracle Database Appliance could not meet performance, availability, or scalability needs, causing student frustration and limiting the university’s ability to support expanding course and administrative data.
The university upgraded to Oracle Database Appliance X6-2 High Availability with Oracle Database 12c and added Active Data Guard, completing migration and testing in two months. The new platform tripled course registrations per second, halved response times for the 53 registration queries, and cut CPU usage from 100% to under 5%, while also enabling real-time backups, easier storage expansion, lower IT costs through integrated systems, and improved developer productivity.
