Stiftung Mathias-Spital Rheine Manages Hospital Applications Around-the-Clock with Lower Cost of Ownership

Stiftung Mathias-Spital Rheine is a nonprofit healthcare operator in Germany running more than 50 institutions, including the Mathias-Spital hospital. The organization needed to improve performance, availability, and security for its core hospital information system ORBIS, support more than 1,000 concurrent users (peaking at about 2,000 sessions), provide capacity for five years of growth, and migrate with minimal scheduled downtime.

Working with Agfa HealthCare, the hospital deployed an integrated Oracle stack—SPARC T5/T4 servers, Oracle Solaris 11, and Oracle Database—and completed an online migration with just two hours of downtime. The new environment has delivered greatly improved stability and performance since November 2015 with no unscheduled outages, supports high concurrent usage, and lowered total cost of ownership by consolidating servers, reducing database licenses, and cutting energy and space requirements.
