Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, a global hospitality company with about 1,200 properties and a large loyalty program (SPG), faced rapidly growing data needs from global expansion that its legacy data warehouse could not meet. Critical reports for reservations, booking pace and yield management were taking up to 18–24 hours, delaying rate decisions and impairing managers’ ability to optimize occupancy and service.
Starwood implemented Oracle Exadata, GoldenGate and Oracle Linux, plus dedicated Oracle support and monitoring, to centralize and accelerate data processing. ETL times fell from 18–24 hours to 4–6 hours (6x faster), transactional changes appear in the warehouse in 5–10 minutes (up to 288x faster) enabling near‑real‑time reporting and marketing decisions, a compressed 75 TB database footprint, and measurable improvements in pricing competitiveness, revenue management and customer experience.
