Skynet iMotion Activities Retrieves Data 2x Faster and Eliminates Storage System Downtime for Rapidly Growing Media Group

Skynet iMotion Activities (SiA), a Belgacom Group subsidiary based in Brussels, produces and distributes Flemish- and French-language audiovisual content for Proximus TV, broadcasting over 700 live sporting events a year and maintaining a 2,000-title VOD catalog. SiA faced an aging storage architecture with limited redundancy and scalability that could not support additional channels, HDTV growth, or larger VOD needs—without expanding precious data-center floor space.

Working with Oracle partner VP Media Solutions, SiA deployed an automated StorageTek solution (SL3000, T10000D cartridges, and Tape Analytics) that increased tape slots from 400 to 2,000 (expandable to 4,617), delivered virtually limitless capacity with 8.5 TB native cartridges, and halved data retrieval times. The new system eliminated manual tape handling and monthly downtime, automated storage management, reduced TCO, and freed IT staff to focus on availability and service—creating an efficient, future-proof storage platform.
