SID consolidates databases, gains capacity with Oracle

Staatsbetrieb Sächsische Informatik Dienste (SID), the central IT service provider for the Free State of Saxony, relied on Oracle Exadata to support critical government databases and applications. As demand grew and its existing infrastructure neared memory and support limits, SID needed a more powerful, stable, and scalable platform to keep public services running smoothly.

Oracle helped SID replace two Exadata Database Machine X4 systems with Exadata Database Machine X8, with support from Oracle Customer Success Services and partners. The migration moved 20 databases in just two months and improved operations immediately: batch data loads dropped from five hours to three, and nightly backups with Oracle Data Pump were cut by 40%. The new platform also delivered higher performance and left SID with room to grow, without requiring additional database licenses at the time.
