A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Shelf Drilling Case Study

Shelf Drilling Optimizes Jackup Rig Operations Globally Thanks to Innovative Mix of Cloud and Hosted Solutions

Shelf Drilling Ltd., a Dubai‑headquartered jackup drilling company operating 38 rigs across Southeast Asia, India, Africa and the Middle East, needed to stand up a full enterprise ERP quickly as it spun out from a larger operator. The startup challenge was to deploy in under six months an integrated system to handle finance, maintenance, supply chain and procurement while giving Dubai HQ near‑real‑time visibility into globally dispersed rigs with limited connectivity, and maintain high uptime and tight cost controls for 24/7 operations.

Working with Oracle and partner Tata Consultancy Services, Shelf Drilling implemented a hybrid solution using JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Managed Cloud Service 9.1 with offline ERP instances on each rig that sync multiple times per day to the central cloud system. Launched in five months, the approach enabled immediate month‑end financials using legacy data, provided timely KPIs to headquarters, automated replenishment and cross‑rig inventory transfers, prioritized maintenance to avoid urgent freight costs, and deployed Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud for improved forecasting—helping the company become operational on schedule, boost user adoption, and optimize global rig operations.
