Sarah Bush Lincoln combats nursing staff burnout with Oracle Health

Sarah Bush Lincoln, a 145-bed nonprofit hospital in Illinois, was facing increasing nurse burnout after COVID due to heavy documentation burden, alert fatigue, and inefficient workflows. To help nurses spend more time on patient care and reduce charting strain, the hospital turned to Oracle and its Oracle Health Essential Clinical Dataset (ECD), part of Oracle Health EHR.

With Oracle, Sarah Bush Lincoln streamlined nursing documentation and removed unnecessary discrete task assays across ICU and med-surg workflows. The changes delivered measurable results: DTAs fell by nearly 50% in critical and intensive care and by 19% in med-surg, while average clicks per patient encounter day dropped 12% in ICU and 17% in med-surg. Oracle also helped reduce charting time, saving 2 minutes 48 seconds per patient encounter day in ICU and more than 1 minute 13 seconds in med-surg, giving clinicians more time for personalized care.
