Preview of the San Jose Water Case Study

San Jose Water moves to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, lifts app performance 50%

San Jose Water, one of the largest urban water utilities in the U.S., needed to replace aging, costly on-premises IT infrastructure that was limiting scalability and slowing legacy applications such as customer care billing, WebLogic, and reporting systems. To address this, San Jose Water worked with Oracle and used Oracle Cloud VMware Solution along with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to migrate its virtual environment to the cloud.

Oracle implemented a mostly “lift-and-shift” migration to OCI, allowing San Jose Water to move workloads with minimal changes and keep familiar VMware tools and processes. The results were strong: application performance improved by more than 50%, nightly batch jobs ran 55% faster, integrations improved by 85%, report runtimes were cut by 50%, and the company completed cutover in less than 10 hours. Oracle also helped simplify backup and restore, improve high availability, and support a smoother administration experience.
