REDISA Creates Thousands of Jobs and Helps Protect Environment with Integrated Waste Tire Management Plan

REDISA NPC is a South African non-profit that established an Integrated Industry Waste Tire Management Plan to tackle 60–100 million scrap tires across the country—fire hazards, pollution, and disease vectors. With new regulations making manufacturers and importers responsible for tire disposal, REDISA had to build a nationwide network of collection points and depots, engage informal and small collectors, create jobs, and deploy a single, paperless IT environment that provided end-to-end operational efficiency and reporting.

Leveraging Oracle technology (including Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Business Intelligence) and partner iFACTORY, REDISA implemented an integrated platform to plan, execute and pay logistics providers, track collections, and measure carbon impact. The initiative collected more than 35,000 tons of tires in two years, registered roughly 1,600 dealers, established 1,300 collection points and 25 depots, created over 1,500 jobs, significantly reduced environmental and health risks, and won the 2014 Oracle Sustainability Innovation Award.
