A Oracle Case Study
PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, a generation-and-transmission co-op serving 20 distribution members in Alabama and northwest Florida, performs monthly inspections at 290 transmission substations. Its six inspection crews were using bulky, costly legacy devices that required docking to sync with the Oracle database, lacked camera/GPS capabilities, and prevented issuing work orders in the field—slowing inspections and compromising data timeliness and integrity.
Working with PITSS, PowerSouth deployed an iPad-based inspection app built with Oracle ADF Mobile, TopLink, and WebLogic that supports offline data capture, geotagged photos, and immediate synchronization with the back-end Oracle Database. The lighter, user-friendly solution lowered maintenance costs, boosted inspector productivity, improved data integrity, and enabled faster, more reliable reporting and business intelligence.
