A Oracle Case Study
Police Department Oldenburg, a 120‑employee force serving a city of 160,000 in Germany, needed to eliminate the cost, risk, and operational delays of externally managed databases that support 2,000 users (up to 250 concurrent). The department sought to upskill staff to diagnose and resolve database faults faster, reduce response times for outages, and deliver a long‑term, flexible training program that fit busy policing schedules.
Working with Oracle University, Oldenburg delivered a three‑year, multi‑format training program (11 expert courses including nine Training on Demand videos and live/classroom options) that fully insourced database administration. Results included a single DBA maintaining 24/7 availability, response times cut from about 60 minutes to 10 minutes (up to 6x faster), a €27,000 saving by avoiding an external standby solution, elimination of outsourced management risk, and increased internal certification, expertise, and staff engagement.
