A Oracle Case Study
Paragon Data GmbH, the IT backbone for Deutsche Buchhandels (DBH), supports more than 450 bookstores across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and manages high-volume retail data for in-store and online sales. Facing capacity limits and frequent unscheduled downtime on NetApp FAS6080 storage—threatening ERP and CRM availability—Paragon needed to improve database performance and stability, cut administration and patching overhead, and migrate its proprietary ERP with minimal disruption ahead of holiday sales peaks.
Paragon replaced the failing storage with Oracle Exadata and adopted Oracle Enterprise Manager, Partitioning, Active Data Guard, and Oracle Linux, with Oracle Advanced Customer Support installing the system in two days and going live with the ERP in just 10 days. The move shortened I/O times, ensured continuous operation for more than 4,000 concurrent store workstations, reduced system administration effort by over 50%, improved reporting and inventory analysis, and added 24/7 remote monitoring and patching to maximize availability.
