Panasonic Information Systems Consolidates 38 Databases for 16 Group Companies, Reduces Operating Workload by 15x, and Cuts Maintenance Costs

Panasonic Information Systems, the Panasonic Group’s core IT services company, faced the challenge of consolidating 38 databases across 16 group companies while preserving each sales system’s independence, improving performance and scalability, and reducing operating and IT costs. They also needed to reassign tasks between application and database teams to speed development and support mid- to long-term business growth amid rapidly increasing users and transaction volumes.

By moving to Oracle Database 12c with Oracle Multitenant on Oracle Exadata, Panasonic IS consolidated pluggable databases into a private-cloud multitenant environment, preserving application isolation while simplifying maintenance. The change cut operating workload by 15x, boosted system performance up to 6.7x, reduced hardware and maintenance costs, enabled patching at the container level, improved DBA efficiency (scaling from 5 DBAs/8 systems to 7 DBAs/170 systems), and increased availability with real-time replication via Oracle Data Guard.
