New South Wales Health Automates Cost-Center Creation Processes, Improves Health Services’ Spending Visibility, and Meets Auditing Requirements

New South Wales Health, the largest public health system in Australia (more than 225 hospitals) supported by HealthShare NSW, needed to simplify and standardize how cost centers for custodial trust funds and restricted financial assets were captured and assigned across 21 agencies. Fragmented, spreadsheet-driven processes limited visibility into general ledger entries, slowed approvals, and made it difficult to meet auditor‑general and internal‑control requirements.

NSW Health implemented Oracle Fusion Middleware—using Oracle BPM Suite, Application Development Framework and WebLogic—to automate end‑to‑end cost‑center creation, enforce approver hierarchies, centralize reporting, and provide an intuitive workflow. The rollout improved general ledger accuracy, consolidated spending visibility, boosted clinician productivity, strengthened audit trails and controls, reduced maintenance overhead, and delivered a scalable platform for future compliance and reporting needs.
