National Oilwell Varco (NOV) is a global manufacturer of drilling and production equipment and services; its Wellbore Technologies group spans six lines of business and multiple ERP systems acquired over time. NOV needed faster, more accurate visibility into operational and financial data (including rental equipment and asset depreciation), a single source of truth for analytics, accelerated ETL and query performance, and reduced IT complexity so teams could expand dashboards and BI capabilities.

NOV built a high‑performance data warehouse using Oracle Exadata, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite, and Oracle Database 12c with the Multitenant option, managed with Oracle Enterprise Manager, Linux, and Oracle VM. The result: ETL processing sped up from 16 hours to 3 hours (about 5.3x faster), queries that took over 20 minutes now run in under a second, daily global inventory and valuation are available, rental-equipment and work-order visibility improved, new customer value generated millions in revenue, and IT overhead dropped (one DBA supports the environment, and database clones take five minutes).
