MLB Network Ensures Safe Archiving Environment for Countless Hours of Baseball Content; Grows Programming Schedule to 16 Live Hours Per Day

MLB Network, the television destination for baseball fans, needed a scalable IT infrastructure to capture, log and preserve vast amounts of live HD and historical videotape content for its expanding programming. The challenge was enormous: ingesting more than 600 hours of live video daily (about 7 PB annually) and digitizing an archive of roughly 535,000 hours that was growing by about 500 hours per day, all while keeping costs and turnaround times low.

By deploying the Oracle DIVArchive suite (live in five months), MLB Network created an active, tiered archive with Archive eXchange Format, DiVAprotect analytics, and automated off-site duplication. The solution enabled rapid partial restores (minutes) and deep-archive retrieval (about an hour), streamlined research and editing, improved continuity and maintenance decisions, reduced costs, and supported expanded programming—enabling up to 16 live hours of content per day.
