A Oracle Case Study
LINE Corp., the company behind the LINE messaging app used by 165 million monthly active users across Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia, faced rapid growth as it expanded into video, music, manga, and lifestyle services. That growth drove the number of database instances to about 10,000, creating management, availability, scalability, monitoring, and security challenges and prompting the need for a scalable, enterprise-grade MySQL solution that would reduce in-house development and improve business continuity.
LINE migrated from MySQL Community Edition to MySQL Enterprise Edition and adopted Oracle MySQL Database Service with Oracle Premier Support, gaining real-time monitoring, replication, backup, and encryption features. As a result, failure resolution became 10x faster, backups shortened from days to hours, operating efficiency improved by about 20%, and LINE was able to launch new in-app content and run large-scale live events with better availability, security, and less burden on its database team.
