Kwik Fit Improves Its Point-of-Sale System and Overall Business Support with Move from Distributed to Centralized Architecture

Kwik Fit GB Limited is the UK’s market-leading fast-fit automotive parts and repair business with more than 600 service points and thousands of daily customer transactions. Facing aging, multivendor point-of-sale (PoS) systems, the company needed greater resilience, scalability and automation to support a new PoS rollout, speed up core applications, simplify DBA tasks, and rapidly provision databases for development and testing while keeping costs and downtime low.

Kwik Fit moved to a pre-integrated Oracle architecture—Oracle Database Appliance, Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance, and Oracle Active Data Guard—deployed across production, development and disaster-recovery sites. The migration (completed in days) centralized the PoS platform, accelerated storage I/O via Oracle Direct NFS, introduced real-time replication and read‑offloading for availability and peak performance, and enabled capacity-on-demand scaling. Resulting benefits included faster, more reliable PoS operations, reduced support and resolution time, improved disaster recovery, and a foundation for migrating additional business applications.
