Keb Hana Card Reduces Average Backup Volume by 30x, Achieves Sub-second Recovery Point Objective, and Ensures Continuous Business Operations

KEB Hana Card Co., Ltd., a leading Korean credit- and debit-card issuer and subsidiary of Hana Financial Group, needed to improve backup performance and scalability as card usage and e-commerce transactions grew. The company faced the challenge of restoring up to 50 TB of transaction data, minimizing data‑loss risk to meet financial security regulations, and reducing backup storage consumption while supporting future growth.

KEB Hana Card replaced an EMC Data Domain tape library with Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance to enable incremental‑forever backups and real‑time protection. The change cut average backup volume by 30x (to 14 TB), increased backup capacity by 65% (33 TB used for 62 TB of databases), delivered sub‑second RPOs to protect more than US$850 million in monthly transactions, achieved 94% deduplication, sped backups 13x (50 minutes vs. 11 hours), extended retention to 21 days, and simplified disaster recovery with daily remote replication—deployed and validated in about two months.
