A Oracle Case Study
KDDI Corporation, a leading Japanese telecommunications provider serving millions of customers across mobile, fixed‑line, broadband and cloud services, needed to modernize the database behind its au ID authentication and one‑stop payment platform for roughly 25 million users. With its “3M” growth strategy (Multi‑Use, Multi‑Device, Multi‑Network), KDDI faced rising transaction volumes, frequent peak‑period load, and unacceptable risk of outages from a legacy PostgreSQL system, so it needed a high‑performing, fault‑resilient platform and a near‑seamless migration with minimal downtime.
KDDI replaced PostgreSQL with Oracle Exadata and implemented Oracle Data Guard and Enterprise Manager, migrating 25 million au ID records in four hours and going live on time and on budget. The new platform nearly doubled throughput to 250,000 queries per second (from 140,000), eliminated large‑scale failures over two years, simplified monitoring, and ensured reliable processing during peak billing periods—preserving service continuity and supporting KDDI’s growth plans.
