A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Kansas City Power & Light Case Study

Kansas City Power & Light Gains a Wealth of Business Intelligence and Granular Insight into the Performance of 500 Field Employees

Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a regulated electric utility serving more than 800,000 customers across 18,000 square miles, needed better ways to extract actionable intelligence from ERP and mobile-service data across 30 offices. The utility’s goals were to give managers self-service analytics and clear performance metrics—particularly for field-crew performance on short- and long-cycle projects—without heavy dependence on IT.

KCP&L worked with PwC and deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition and Oracle Data Integrator, completing a four-month pilot and rolling the solution to frontline managers. The implementation delivered user-friendly dashboards and reports that provide granular insight into 500 field employees, transmission and distribution asset health, project costs, and productivity benchmarks; cut report creation from weeks to hours; improved forecasting and staffing decisions; and established a scalable BI foundation for broader use across finance, operations, and customer service.
