A Oracle Case Study
Jeju National University Hospital (JNUH), the only national university hospital on Jeju Island and one of Korea’s top five, sought to standardize its IT infrastructure to boost doctor productivity and ensure high availability for critical medical systems such as EMR, PACS, and Groupware. The hospital faced bottlenecks, high resource utilization, and geographic constraints that risked patient service quality and increased maintenance overhead.
JNUH implemented Oracle Exadata, Oracle Management Cloud, Oracle Database Appliance and Enterprise Manager to consolidate four databases, eight servers and separate storage into a single platform. The upgrade delivered a 33.5x improvement in EMR performance with under 10% disk I/O, reduced EMR memory use to below 60% (from 100%) and cut PACS CPU to about 20% using Smart Flash Cache. Oracle Management Cloud’s log analytics simplified monitoring and reduced operational workload, while active‑active clustering, triple backups and a disaster‑recovery appliance ensured higher availability; the solution was proven in a 2‑month POC, migrated over two months, and went live in eight months.
