ICON Re-Populates Data Warehouse in Three Hours, Delivers Near Real-Time Management Information, Provides Daily Drug Trial Updates to Sponsors

ICON plc is a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries that manages large volumes of clinical-trial data. Faced with multiple Oracle and third‑party systems and slow, manual processes, ICON needed a way to consolidate data, avoid brittle point‑to‑point integrations, and deliver faster, accurate management information and sponsor updates.

ICON implemented Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition and an enterprise data hub using a hub‑and‑spoke pattern to automate extraction, synchronization, and transformation across systems. The new platform can reload thousands of tables and refresh the data warehouse in under three hours, delivers 24‑hour refreshes of trial statistics to sponsors, enables near real‑time reporting for ~1,000 daily BI users, reduces integration costs and manual requests, and helps accelerate drug development; a sponsor self‑service portal is planned.
