A Oracle Case Study
Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM) is an integrated German steel producer supplying quality sheet and tubular products with an annual raw steelmaking capacity of 5.5 million tons. Facing the need to maintain high availability, reliability, and performance for mission‑critical production systems, HKM sought to consolidate servers, cut maintenance and energy costs, centralize hardware/virtualization management, and complete an OS and server migration without disrupting steel manufacturing operations.
HKM deployed Oracle SPARC T4‑4 servers, Oracle VM Server for SPARC, Oracle Solaris 11 and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center to virtualize and centralize its environment—consolidating 16 servers down to 4 and migrating 30 production and 30 test zones onto the new platform with live, zero‑downtime migrations. The integrated solution delivered scalable, high‑performance support for core processes, improved data‑center visibility and patch management, and cut maintenance and energy costs by 50%, while sustaining low power/cooling needs and reducing unplanned downtime.
