HOYER Future-Proofs System for Managing Intermodal Rail, Road, and Sea Transport to Meet High Growth Potential

HOYER GmbH, a global bulk-logistics provider with over 5,000 employees in 80+ countries, faced a growing problem: its homegrown Java-based transport management system (TMS) had reached technical and scalability limits. The company needed a web-based platform that could scale on demand, support complex intermodal rail/road/sea workflows, add robust reporting and search, and preserve years of custom business logic—all while allowing a phased migration without disrupting daily operations.

HOYER partnered with Oracle and specialists Yellowstar Solutions and IFDV to convert the legacy TMS to a scalable web application using Oracle Application Express (APEX) and a custom APEX converter. More than 3,000 screens were migrated, performance was optimized to display complex screens in seconds (about five times faster), and users gained self-service reporting, full-text search, and browser access for mission-critical data. The solution preserved customized logic, supported ongoing development during a two-year migration, and unlocked growth potential for intermodal transport with an initial 50 users and plans to migrate hundreds more.
