HCPA Saves $2 Million in 5 Years with Oracle Infrastructure as a Service

Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA) is a large public university hospital in Brazil that handles hundreds of thousands of consultations and millions of exams annually. Facing rising annual costs from new equipment and licenses, fragmented infrastructure from multiple suppliers, and a legal requirement to keep patient records in‑house forever, HCPA needed a secure, non‑disruptive solution that could handle 24/7 processing and protect sensitive medical data.

HCPA adopted Oracle Cloud Machine (Oracle IaaS) to centralize servers and storage, ensure data sovereignty, and consolidate technical support. The move reduced storage and maintenance costs—projected savings of about $2 million over five years—improved the safety and reliability of electronic medical records, and freed IT staff to focus on developing the hospital management application and other projects; several production environments are already live and migration continues gradually with Oracle’s support.
