Gyeongsang National University Changwon Hospital Compresses Medical Data by 5x, Ensures 24/7 Healthcare Operations, and Enhances Patient Satisfaction

Gyeongsang National University Changwon Hospital (GNUCH) is a national university hospital in Changwon, Korea, serving 3.3 million residents with 15 wards and about 1,100 staff. Facing the need to ensure 24/7 availability and rapid access to critical medical records, the hospital also had to store and scale more than 100,000 electronic medical records daily while improving service quality and patient satisfaction.

GNUCH implemented Oracle Database 12c with Real Application Clusters for transparent failover, Oracle Advanced Compression (reducing medical data by 5x), Oracle Partitioning for tiered storage, and Oracle Advanced Security (master key/TDE). The solution—designed and deployed in 14 months and launched before the hospital opened—delivered continuous operations, supported ~150,000 new records daily with terabyte-scale growth capacity, enabled patient record access in under three seconds, improved staff productivity, and reduced developer/administrator workload.
