Front Porch Digital Archives More Than 60 Terabytes of Cloud-Based Media Assets Daily Adds Content to Tape Library over 1.5x Faster

Front Porch Digital, a provider of software and services for migrating, managing, and monetizing large media collections, needed a highly available, affordable and scalable storage platform to support its cloud-based LYNX media-storage service. The company had to meet strict SLAs, ingest very large daily volumes of customer content, and scale per customer without ballooning capital or operating costs.

Front Porch deployed two Oracle StorageTek SL3000 libraries populated with 15 T10000D drives integrated with LYNX and DiVArchive, enabling 60 TB of daily ingest. Write performance rose 1.5x (from 160 to 252 MB/s) and cartridge capacity increased to 8.5 TB (3.5x), allowing Front Porch to buy two libraries instead of four, reduce power/cooling and management costs, scale storage per customer, improve reliability with Tape Analytics, meet SLA and duplication requirements, and standardize its architecture for large customers.
