A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Edenorte Dominicana Case Study

Edenorte Dominicana Increases Application Performance with a Consolidated Infrastructure, Eliminates Downtime, Saves on Database Licensing Costs

Edenorte Dominicana is the electric utility serving the 14 northern provinces of the Dominican Republic, with 126 offices and nearly 1 million customers. Faced with dozens of legacy databases and applications, the company needed to consolidate infrastructure to remove single points of failure, ensure timely backups for critical billing data (about 800,000 customers), improve application performance and scalability, and cut database licensing and maintenance costs.

Edenorte migrated its systems to Oracle Database 12c with the Multitenant option, Oracle Real Application Clusters, and engineered systems to create a highly available, consolidated platform. The move boosted application performance and availability, eliminated server downtime, sped backups and provisioning, reduced administration overhead, lowered database licensing costs by consolidating on fewer processors, and accelerated time to market for new services such as online bill payment.
