Eaton Standardizes Product Master Data for 8.5 Million Parts Across the Enterprise— Enhancing Competitive Edge and Customer Experience

Eaton, a global power-management company serving customers in 175 countries, faced the challenge of operating as a unified enterprise across multiple acquired divisions while managing information for more than 8.5 million parts. The company needed to improve operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, distributor relationships, customer experience, and expand its ecommerce presence.

Eaton implemented an Oracle-based master data management environment (Oracle Product Hub, Oracle Enterprise Data Quality and integrated commerce tools) in a phased migration, creating a single source of truth for product data. Results included raising data quality from 70% to 90%, eliminating duplicate parts and inconsistent images, reducing incorrect shipments and warranty claims, speeding rule development and time-to-market, improving call-center efficiency, and enhancing ecommerce content and sales while enabling enterprise-wide process sequencing and better business intelligence.
