A Oracle Case Study
DSP partner DSP worked with the Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre (part of the NIHR) to tackle a clinical challenge in cochlear implants: new implants require individualized programming about six times in the first two years, and during the pandemic the BRC wanted to reduce clinic return visits and lower the level of specialist expertise needed so more patients—especially young children—could be served.
DSP built machine‑learning models on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Data Science, using a familiar Python environment and the Accelerated Data Science toolkit to speed development and keep results transparent. The work has given the BRC new insights into applying ML to programming cochlear implants, with the potential to reduce clinic visits, increase patient throughput, and produce models that clinicians can understand and trust.
