A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the Dankook University Case Study

Dankook University Enables 20,000 Students to Enroll Anytime, Accelerates Response Time 300x During Registration Period, and Reduces IT Costs by 30%

Dankook University, a private research university with more than 20,000 students across two campuses, needed to consolidate disparate administration, academic, and registration systems into a single virtual cloud to simplify IT management, protect sensitive student data, and support heavy mobile and peak-course-registration traffic for over 20,000 concurrent users without interruption.

By deploying Oracle Database 12c on Oracle Exadata with Oracle WebLogic Server 12c and security and diagnostics packs, DKU accelerated registration response times by 300x (from 300 seconds to 1 second), enabled students to enroll anytime, and cut IT costs by about 30% versus its previous application server. The centralized engineered system reduced CPU and storage use, served queries in under two seconds, provided transparent data encryption and stronger access controls, improved availability and automated performance tuning, and was implemented in an 18-month rollout.
