A Oracle Case Study
Dakota County, a 593-square-mile government jurisdiction in the Twin Cities metro with about 400,000 residents, was struggling to run its new Oracle-based property assessment and taxation system: many batch jobs took 15–20 hours, preventing staff from running multiple validation reports and delaying timely distribution of tax statements. In-depth testing showed the legacy servers couldn’t deliver the required performance.
The county trialed an Oracle Database Appliance (provided with support from Oracle and partner Mythics), installed it onsite in two weeks, and saw batch runs drop from ~20 hours to about 4 hours—up to 5x faster. Dakota County purchased two appliances (production and a disaster-recovery/development box), uses Oracle Data Guard between them with no performance loss, and now delivers assessments and tax information more quickly and reliably.
