Covanta taps Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for secure PeopleSoft migration

Covanta, a global energy‑from‑waste company that processes about 22 million tons of waste annually, relied on Oracle PeopleSoft for finance, supply chain, and procurement but needed a more scalable, cost‑effective, and secure hosting model than its on‑premises and managed cloud setup. The challenge was to migrate a mission‑critical PeopleSoft environment while improving performance, control, and protection for internet‑facing applications.

Covanta provisioned a fresh environment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure using Terraform and Oracle Cloud networking and management tools, and deployed Oracle Web Application Security (WAF and Bot Manager) to protect the application edge. The two‑month migration delivered a 2X performance improvement, better CPU and VM performance, easier scaling and change management, and stronger visibility into web threats—positioning Covanta to add file services and expand PeopleSoft capabilities in the cloud.
