Cogentrix Energy Power Management, a Charlotte-based independent power producer, needed to grow its Cogentrix Field Services (CFS) business by supporting third-party maintenance and project work while retaining existing intercompany processes. The company faced challenges automating invoicing, improving cash-flow visibility, and reducing administrative overhead in a market with no ready-made solution.
Cogentrix leveraged its existing Oracle PeopleSoft Maintenance Management and Project Costing applications to create an integrated automatic invoicing and project-data platform. The implementation reduced allocated expenses, shortened invoicing lag and payment cycles, improved forecasting and auditability, cut cash‑flow meetings from weekly 1–2 hour sessions to 15 minutes biweekly, and scaled from 5 to 11 facilities plus 23 outside clients without changing processes.
