City of Baton Rouge Boosts System Performance and Cuts Report Generation to 30 Seconds

The City of Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s state capital and its second-largest city, needed to improve availability, scalability, and performance for business‑critical databases that support public safety, fleet maintenance, and geographic information systems used citywide around the clock. The legacy Dell environment struggled to serve hundreds of users and caused slow report and map generation that impeded internal and public services.

Baton Rouge replaced its legacy servers and storage with Oracle Database Appliance and used Oracle Application Express, Spatial and Graph, and Enterprise Manager to modernize applications and monitoring. The in‑house migration delivered a 2x performance increase, reduced police incident-report times from 2–3 minutes to 30 seconds, cut web-based property map generation to 5 seconds, simplified support with a single vendor, and enabled rapid development of departmental apps—improving day‑to‑day city operations.
