Case Study: China Eastern Airlines achieves enhanced flight safety and fuel efficiency with Oracle Big Data Appliance

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the China Eastern Airlines Case Study

China Eastern Airlines adopts Oracle Big Data to enhance flight safety

China Eastern Airlines, one of China’s three major carriers and a SkyTeam member serving over 100 million passengers to 1,062 destinations, needed to better leverage massive Quick Access Recorder (QAR) data to improve flight safety, cut operational costs, and gain a competitive edge. The airline faced the challenge of rapidly processing and analyzing more than 100TB of annual flight data and extending high-performance analytics across marketing, customer service, and flight operations.

By deploying Oracle Big Data Appliance and Engineered Systems to centrally manage Hadoop and big-data workloads, China Eastern consolidated sensor data from thousands of aircraft into single queries for rapid analysis. The solution enabled device health monitoring and fault prediction, pilot-behavior analysis, multidimensional fuel-optimization across 60+ attributes, and spatial analytics to improve service delivery—resulting in enhanced flight safety, lower fuel consumption, improved operational quality, and faster insights for business teams.
