Centre Hospitalier EpiCURA a.s.b.l. is a regional Belgian medical center formed by a 2012 merger, operating three sites with 875 beds, 400 doctors and more than 400,000 consultations a year. After consolidating two hospitals and diverse IT stacks (IBM servers, Red Hat OS, NetApp storage), the IT team faced frequent crashes, limited storage growth, and complex multi-vendor database maintenance that distracted DBAs from performance tuning.

EpiCURA deployed Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) and Oracle Active Data Guard to consolidate 14 databases and ~1 TB of data onto a single, preconfigured platform, replacing end-of-life NetApp disks and reducing licensing complexity. The solution delivered continuous availability for ~1,000 concurrent users and tens of thousands of daily queries, added a real-time backup ODA for zero service interruption, freed 1 TB of capacity, provided room for ~10% annual data growth, and simplified database management so staff can focus on optimization.
