Capgemini UK Migrates Data Warehouses to Engineered Systems, Achieves 50% Data Compression, Improves Database Performance by 30% for Large Client

Capgemini UK, acting as systems integrator for a large transportation-sector client, faced the challenge of preserving, compressing, and migrating five legacy data warehouses that suffered from inconsistent patching, limited capacity, aging architecture, lack of disaster recovery, and highly varied data types and volumes. The client required an engineered-systems solution to deliver extreme mixed-workload performance and scalability while maintaining data integrity.

Capgemini partnered with Oracle Advanced Customer Support to run a proof of concept and execute 15 zero-downtime migrations to Oracle Exadata, moving more than 6 TB in a single weekend and completing the program in about 18 months. The migration achieved dynamic compression ratios approaching 50% (e.g., 5 TB reduced to 2.6 TB), improved overall database performance by about 30% (one workload cut from 48 hours to 8 hours), and delivered reliable, fully validated cutovers with ongoing engineered-systems support.
