Canon Processes Data from More Than 1 Million Printers 5x Faster, Improves Customer Service, and Supports Business Growth

Canon Inc., a global leader in imaging and office and industrial products, needed a high-performance, scalable IoT platform to process massive volumes of data from more than 1 million multifunction printers across 100+ countries. Key challenges included eliminating I/O and storage bottlenecks, supporting anticipated 2x growth in connected printers, ensuring seamless migration with no disruption to customers, and implementing a simple, reliable disaster-recovery solution.

Canon deployed Oracle engineered systems and Fusion Middleware—Exadata, Exalogic, Oracle Coherence, Oracle Service Bus, GoldenGate, RAC and Active Data Guard—to enable in-memory processing, real-time replication, and automated failover. The new platform delivers up to 5x faster query responses, reduced batch processing time by 50%, capacity to support about 2 million printers, seamless data migration with no user impact, and stronger disaster recovery and data security.
