BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), a New Delhi–based electric utility, partnered with Oracle’s Opower to launch a large-scale behavioral energy-efficiency program across South and West Delhi. The challenge was to generate verifiable energy savings, reduce peak-hour consumption, and boost customer engagement and energy literacy by delivering actionable Home Energy Reports (HERs) that help customers lower their bills and adopt more efficient habits.
BRPL deployed Opower HERs tailored through in-field research with local linguists and energy experts, combining proactive communications and self-service tools. Early results show improved grid reliability and measurable customer impact: 17% fewer call-center contacts, up to 82% of recipients liking the reports, an 18% increase in the sentiment that BRPL “wants to help me reduce my home energy use,” 38% reporting decreased usage over six months, and a 16% rise in awareness of other BRPL efficiency programs.
