A Oracle Case Study
BMI Healthcare, the United Kingdom’s largest private hospital group with 62 hospitals and treatment centres, ~1.5 million outpatient visits and over 276,000 inpatient/day-case visits annually, needed to modernize finance and operations while preserving high-quality patient care (97% “very good or excellent” satisfaction). Key challenges included gaining real-time, enterprise-wide financial insight and KPIs (for example theatre utilisation), reducing surplus stock and procurement costs, integrating patient and hospital management with financial processes, assimilating acquisitions quickly, and enabling shared-service efficiency.
BMI implemented Oracle PeopleSoft Financials and PeopleTools—centralizing finance on a single platform and building tailored hospital and patient-management applications. The rollout (nine hospitals in eight weeks; full deployment across 62 sites in 18 months with Oracle Consulting support) delivered real-time KPI tracking, faster month-ends, improved cash forecasting and collections, automated procure-to-pay and inventory re-ordering, consolidated purchasing discounts, streamlined consultant payments, scheduling, pharmacy and discharge processes—reducing costs, improving resource utilisation and enhancing patient services.
